PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Since the beginning of the cooperation between EBM INTERNATIONAL and the Baptist Convention of Sierra Leone (BCSL) the support of many Baptist schools has been a core concern in our partnership. By now more than 40 churches have founded a school. In Sierra Leone the government took on to pay the salaries of qualified teachers. Therefore many churches take the opportunity to open their facilities for schools in their areas. This has the effect that churches have a good reputation in the population. They are creating numerous jobs and help create a positive development of many regions with their educational work. Some leading figures in the country have been taught at a Baptist school. Until today many of them have a friendly relationship with EBM INTERNATIONAL and BCSL.

Education fights poverty proactively and offers children and youth better perspectives in life. Especially in a country like Sierra Leone that was shaken by many crises and catastrophes, the education of the young people carries an enormous significance. After the civil war at the turn of the millennium, Sierra Leone took a hard time recovering, only to be thrown back in the past couple of years in the economic development by the ebola epidemic and several natural disasters.

In 2017 we were able to send Katrin Kruse as a missionary who is an experienced educator. She will participate in the important educational work in Sierra Leone. Katrin is an educator with the emphasis in intercultural learning. She has 12 years of experience in the field of conceptual work and leading of trainings for teachers. Her core task in BCSL is now to develop didactic methodical competences for especially teachers without a solid training as well as instructing teachers assistants so more kids can be taught and the quality of the classes are improved. We are happy to intensify our partnership with BCSL by sending Katrin as a missionary as well as promoting the schools.
