Mozambique: A new Home with the Director
In the south of Mozambique, our Spanish missionary Sara Marcos and her team work in the social center in Macia. More than 50 girls and boys, especially those with disabilities, receive intensive care there. Around 100 other children and their families are visited regularly and receive help with school, food, pastoral care and prayer.
Diverse support
Whether in coping with everyday life or with schoolwork, through occupational therapy or medical care - children at the social center should receive the best possible support. As the need for support for the youngest children is increasing, an inclusive preschool has been started. The children's nutritional status is also regularly monitored so that countermeasures can be taken in good time if necessary. The families receive advice and support.
Themba finds a home with the director
Sergio Mundlhovo is not only the director of the social center in Macia, but also the pastor of a small Baptist church. In his work with the children and young people, he repeatedly encounters cases where he and his wife are deeply moved by the suffering of the families. The social center has become a new, safe home for a number of children: In cooperation with the authorities, decisions are made about what to do with children whose lives or safety are in acute danger.
In the case of one girl, Sergio and his family even opened their home: she and her sister were living in very precarious circumstances with their father and uncle, who both took drugs and were addicted to alcohol. The girls were obviously not doing well, they were not sleeping enough and were not getting enough to eat. So the team at the social center thought about how they could help the family.
The younger of the two, let's call her Themba, would have liked to stay at the social center the whole time, but the older one wouldn't allow it and kept returning with her sister to the environment that was hurting her so much.
So Sergio spoke to his wife and the local authorities. It was decided to place the two sisters separately in two families. Sergio's own children were given a little sister. Themba quickly settled in and found new support. She remains in contact with her family.
She had already missed a year of school, but was then able to attend classes regularly again and is now in the third grade. There is still a lot of catching up to do, but the brave girl is finding her way.
Sergio knows: “God has everything under control. We don't look at the negative circumstances, but at the progress our little foster child is making in her health and learning!"
Together with the team in Macia, we want to improve the lives and daily routines of these children and their families. Through the social center, many families in Macia are receiving new hope and experiencing God's love in a very practical way. You can support this work with a donation for the social center in Macia.
