PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Well trained pastors are key for good church work. In Africa they are also counselors for all sorts of requests in the village. In Lilongwe the Baptist Convention of Malawi (BACOMA) has been training clergymen since 1994. For some time now it is possible to get a bachelor’s and a master’s degree there and it has become natural for women to be trained as well. There are more than 10 women studying at the seminary today, more than ever before. We are grateful that our value of equality is being expressed more and more with our partner in Malawi.
By now there are students from the neighbouring countries from time to time. Young people from Mozambique and Zambia were able to start their studies. We as EBM INTERNATIONAL are supporting two young men from Zambia that the Baptist Convention of Zambia (BCZ) sent to Lilongwe for their studies. We are excited about the diverse relationships that are being formed between our partners in this big region, and their openness to learn and benefit from each other.
The seminary in Lilongwe connects theory and practice closely. The should offer enough freedom for the students to be active in churches. Also, every day starts with a devotion
where they are given the chance to preach and gain experience for their later church work. Tuition is 150 Euros per semester.
Our long time missionary Dr. Klaus Fiedler has been closely connected with the seminary for a long time now and he keeps supervising graduates in his post graduate program at the University Malawi. He’s been an honorary member of the board of the seminary for many years.
Within the diverse relationships between BACOMA and EBM INTERNATIONAL there has been an active exchange of teachers and volunteers in the last couple of years. The office of the Baptist convention is also located on the premises of the seminary.
