PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In less than eight years, more than 250 new churches have been formed in eastern Cuba. These were planted within the country, in villages, as well as in cities. Many people that have been reached with the good news are taking huge obstacles upon themselves in order to get to the church services. They often walk many miles by foot or go long distances on ox carts and tractor-trailers just to part of it. People are giving their lives to God. They are so excited about what they have experienced with Jesus, and this way they become evangelists very quickly. These missionaries and pastors that have only recently come to their new faith need good and Biblical training as well as support.
In Las Tunas and in ten other places in eastern Cuba there are more than 200 members in training right now. All of them are already active in a mission work and church planting work. There is a high demand for these trainings.
The Baptist convent in eastern Cuba is very grateful for the support of EBM INTERNATIONAL in the project “Training For Church Planters”. Marcos Rivero is the responsible missionary for this work. He is also the Pastor of the first Baptist church in Las Tunas. With his team, he coordinates the trainings. These are taking place with 100 participants at 11 locations: Las Tunas, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Las Margaritas, Colombia, Camagüey and others.
This project has developed very positively and has reached its next stage. The four full time teachers now train and support about 60 missionaries who in turn train many others in different regions.
The new church planters are so excited and happy about the growth of their mission churches. They also tell about the many challenges they face in their everyday lives and their work they have to do. Often this is about material needs but also about spiritual warfare and struggles. They keep saying, “There’s no victory without a fight!” Moreover, they hope to be supported continuously financially and by prayer.
