Developing the skills of local staff and leaders is at the heart of our mission, and a common element of all our areas of work – from church development to humanitarian work. Education brings lasting changes in people’s lives, and fosters holistic development and equality. It is a reflection of our values, and we believe that it is a great force in the kingdom of God. In Latin America, many staff and missionaries are trained for church work in keeping with their culture. In Peru, for example, this is done in the “Quechua way”. Here many people are also given the opportunity to learn a trade or receive training in the area of agriculture, so that they can provide for their families.
In Africa and India the training centres have become a key element of our work. Young people learn a job, usually a trade, which will secure the livelihood of a small family.
Training is given, for example, in the areas of textiles, car mechanics, computer technology or metalworking.
