Reaching people with the gospel

When Pastor Julius Damson’s motorcycle rattles for miles on dusty roads in southern Malawi, the extreme heat doesn’t bother him. His heart beats for people and the gospel: he tirelessly visits the old and the sick, holds children’s lessons and proclaims the Good News. Julius reports that two new churches have sprung up in his region in the past few months. He now looks after 15 parishes.

In Latin America we also promote the preaching of the Gospel by new local congregations: For many years there has been a large Baptist congregation in Ijuí, Brazil which is closely connected to the theological seminary, a social center and the CAIS deaf project. The brothers and sisters in Ijuí have long understood that the gospel has two hands: word and deed. So, it is only natural that children, young people and their families have a contact point for their worries and needs in addition to church work in social projects. In Argentina, Pedro and Noemí Boretsky take care of the spiritual and material needs of the Mapuche indigenous people. They are one of many married couples planting churches on the subcontinent.

In Turkey, our siblings invite you to their church services, take care of refugees and seek contact with people. This is an effective testimony of a loving neighbour and the saving love of God. In the middle of the pandemic, they have even started a basic digital theological course to network and learn more about the Bible. Ertan Cevik writes that this is a dream come true for him.

The ministry of Julius Damson and Family Boretsky are just two examples of more than 80 church development projects. Theological training is now starting with the basic course in Turkey and is an essential part of the church work for many of our partners. In Africa we support the training of pastors in eight countries. In Cuba we support church planting courses that have created hundreds of house churches in the east of the island. Regina Claas, Johann Vollbracht and Ertan and Marlene Cevik are passionately involved in church development work.

Together with you we would like to promote the building of churches, train people, and plant churches in order to reach children and their families with the gospel. With your Thanksgiving offering, we want to support the area of “church development.”
