Bringing Hope into the Lives of Children

Mirjam Pizzi is an impressive woman: She is the director of the social center in Mendoza/Argentina, which has become a huge and extraordinary project over the last 25 years. After the small beginnings when a family took in children from the poor district “12 de Mayo”, a large centre with different areas of work has now been established. Here, 400 children are looked after daily outside school. They experience love and care as well as help for everyday life. In addition, an emergency feeding program provides food for 370 people every day. The social centre works closely with the local community, where many children are looked after in foster families (so-called MANNA families). There is also a PEPE preschool program for 60 children of preschool age, which greatly improves the children’s chances of getting into school. The various centres in Latin America care for more than 1,000 children.

An impressive project of our 17 partners in India is Bridge of Hope in Gotlam. Under the management of Shanti and Anil Benjamin, many different projects are being managed. The church on the site started caring for children two decades ago. This has resulted in the Asha Kiran children’s home, in which 68 girls and boys currently live. The children can go to school and escape the dangers of poverty and forced labour. Many of the children have very good school results and thus lay the foundations for their lives. In the morning and evening, there is a short prayer for the children. On the campus in Gotlam there are also different training programs in the fields of tailoring, electrics, or computer technology. Thus, some of the children are accompanied and supported in the centre even as young adults. Shanti and Anil Benjamin, in addition to their leadership role at Bridge of Hope, are also the chief physicians of the Shalom Medical Center, where nearly 10,000 people are treated each year.

In Equatorial Guinea, the Spanish missionaries Marta Nombela, Jaime Rodriguez, and Maria José work at the two schools in Malabo and Evinayong. In the current school year, there are 1,000 students at the two locations. More than 70 staff members take holistic care of the children here. With Ambrosio Mitogo Nguere in Evinayong and Valentín Kuku Pasialo, we are investing heavily in two local leaders who take responsibility for the large schools. In Evinayong, new buildings are regularly constructed to improve learning opportunities bit by bit. In the village region of Evinayong on the mainland of the country, three small communities have been established in the villages in addition to the community on the school grounds.

The examples show how EBM INTERNATIONAL is committed to children all over the world. With a total budget of more than €1,000,000, the area “Children at risk” is the largest work area with the highest need for donations.
