Most of the housed children are victims of the conflicts between the two tribes called Kookies and Nagas. They have been fighting for years against each other. Hundreds of villages have been burnt and the population scattered. Many people had to leave their villages and became refugees in their own country. Villagers, among them many women and children, were killed brutally. Children whose parents had either died or fled to Myanmar were left behind.
Pastor Vumthang and his wife took some of those children into their home. He had the vision for many more children to have a good home, more than he could take into his home himself. His church shared his vision. In the meantime there is a children’s home with 50 children ages 3 to 18. The property for the children’s home was a gift from the oldest villager Taloulong. The home has the following goals:
1.) To meet the basic needs of the children: giving them shelter, food, clothing, and education.
2.) To raise these defenseless children to become good and responsible citizens.
3) To promote social peace and harmony in Manipur through the children’s home.
4) To care for the children and let them experience Jesus’ love.
The special part of this children’s home is their big garden with vegetables, fruits, and a rice field. They also have their own pigs, ducks, geese, chicken, and fish. This way the children get an excellent balanced nutrition. In addition to that the church is reachable by foot where the children have their spiritual home and where volunteers from church are helping them with their study time.
